Terowie is one of the very few towns in South Australia designated an Historic Town. It has a number of museums and so many preserved and restored old buildings that it is still possible to see what an early township would have been like.
The Barrier Highway bypassed Terowie on its way from Hallet to Peterborough, but the excellent Terowie Roadhouse marks the turnoff to the town, which must be visited.
The Information Centre is generally open, but depends on volunteers so, if it is shut, go to the General Store who can help with access to the museums.
The creation and maintenance of the museums, displays, playground and covered barbecue area is all undertaken by the Terowie Citizens' Association, an extremely active and successful group, who form the nucleus of the town's social life.
